Let me explain why “Anki” is the most powerful, FREE, flashcard software out on the internet.

What Anki Does in the IBDP

Anki is a powerful flashcard tool because of its effective algorithm that optimizes the learning process, called spaced repetition. The algorithm shows users flashcards at precisely the right time, just as they're about to forget the information. This repetition is proven to help people learn faster and retain knowledge for longer periods of time. A study published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research found that medical students who used Anki scored higher on their exams than students who did not use it. Additionally, a study published in the Journal of Educational Psychology found that spaced repetition techniques, like the one used in Anki, improved long-term retention and knowledge transfer in students. Anki is perfect for the International Baccalaureate (IB) because it covers a broad range of subjects and is highly customizable. Students can create their own decks or use existing ones, and the tool allows them to incorporate images, audio, and video into their flashcards. The IB requires students to have a broad and deep understanding of many subjects, and Anki can help them to efficiently and effectively learn and retain this information. However, one of the biggest drawbacks of Anki is that creating Flashcards is the most time-consuming and laborious process of the entire learning process. The creation of flashcards is a major deterrent in using Anki for the IB, as IB students generally have very little time to sacrifice to make flashcards. This is where I come in. My goal is to save you time in creating flashcards, and provide you with some great, high quality, high yield flashcards for various IB subjects.

Quick Guide to Anki

Please visit the anki website here (apps.ankiweb.net) and download Anki for your device. I have created my flashcards such that you only need to install Anki, no other additional downloads/add ons are required. You can create an account on Anki (optional, but I do recommend this).

To import cards navigate to the top right of the application and go to ‘File’ > ‘Import’ and import the respective Anki cards you’ve purchased. Alternatively, you can just click on the file for the Anki cards in your downloads and Anki will automatically import the cards for you.

I do highly reocmmend new users explore how Anki works. I have provided some youtube videos down below to help you on your Anki journey. It took me about a year to figure out how to create ideal flashcards for IB, so hopefully these youtube videos can provide you with some help. I do recommend all IB students explore how Anki works as it is an incredibly powerful tool.
Furthermore, I recommend you install some add-ons, in the event you want to create your own flashcards. The add-ons I use are as follows:
